First, you need Qt 4.8 or higher (Should work with Qt5 but there may be a few minor issues)

To compile on Linux
> cd spikespy
> qmake
> make

To compile on other platforms
> Try yourself or ask Jeremy/Alex

> cd spikespy/matlab
> spikespy_simple_test
