This needed to be moved somewhere that it can have access to a HomeServer

I wonder if it'd be cleaner to pass the HomeServer as an argument to |
Can we treat empty lists as a filter allowing nothing through instead of no filter? I'm imagining a case where someone writes the obvious code to query for something like "all events with a reaction from new users who joined within the last hour", where the list of users comes from another query. |

LGTM apart from the comments above
I'm not sure that would be any clearer, it feels nicer to have it when we instantiate it (it should be fewer call sites), but I can try it if you would like!
Hmmm, the current filtering has things like:
Which is similar language to what I put into MSC3440. Is there a particular spot you're looking at to apply this? I think I implemented the filtering in the same way as the previous filters? Are you just asking for some more explicit |

Synapse 1.48.0 (2021-11-30) =========================== This release removes support for the long-deprecated `trust_identity_server_for_password_resets` configuration flag. This release also fixes some performance issues with some background database updates introduced in Synapse 1.47.0. No significant changes since 1.48.0rc1. Synapse 1.48.0rc1 (2021-11-25) ============================== Features -------- - Experimental support for the thread relation defined in [MSC3440](matrix-org/matrix-spec-proposals#3440). ([\#11161](matrix-org/synapse#11161)) - Support filtering by relation senders & types per [MSC3440](matrix-org/matrix-spec-proposals#3440). ([\#11236](matrix-org/synapse#11236)) - Add support for the `/_matrix/client/v3` and `/_matrix/media/v3` APIs from Matrix v1.1. Contributed by @tulir. ([\#11335](matrix-org/synapse#11335)) - Add a new version of delete room admin API `DELETE /_synapse/admin/v2/rooms/<room_id>` to run it in the background. Contributed by @dklimpel. ([\#11223](matrix-org/synapse#11223)) - Allow the admin [Delete Room API](https://matrix-org.github.io/synapse/latest/admin_api/rooms.html#delete-room-api) to block a room without the need to join it. ([\#11228](matrix-org/synapse#11228)) - Add an admin API to un-shadow-ban a user. ([\#11347](matrix-org/synapse#11347)) - Add an admin API to run background database schema updates. Implements filtering via relations perMSC3440, specifically filtering for parent events which have:
relation_types
: Another event referring to them of particular relation type(s).relation_senders
: Another event referring to them from particular sender(s).This PR uses the unstable prefixes and required a bit of refactoring (I can split this work out to a separate PR if preferred):
filter_*
methods to be asyncFIlter
to access the datastore (viaHomeServer
)After that we can update the
Filter
implementation to take the additional filterings parameters and apply those in:This should be reviewable commit-by-commit.
