Add Collapse/Expand button (as seen in the title bar of the in-box Xbox UWP app) to all windows for quick toggling between wide and narrow/portrait view.

Copy the functionality already present in the Xbox app. From left to right, the titlebar of the app contains:

  1. Back button
  2. Refresh button
  3. Expand/Collapse Button
  4. App Name/Window Title
  5. Minmimize
  6. Maximize/Restore
  7. Close

It is the #3 item that I wish every app had.

bunch of those are up to the app / app dependent like refresh and back. So i don't think that is really do-able.

For collapse / expand, you just want something to snap the app to a reduced width state and then restore?

Basically, yes. I really like that functionality. Although truth told, I'm kind of getting the same functionality from one of the existing power toys. I have a "roughly phone screen sized" zone I can snap the window in to set it that size.

not to spill too much ink over it, but one of the promises of Windows 8 was that you would spend less time resizing and adjusting your workspace because you would snap one to four apps side by side of varying sizes. I feel like that toggle button on the Xbox app is a natural succession to that, I just wish it was a uniform function for every program I open. In particular music programs (think narrow for viewing a small playlist, or wide for a big browsing view.)

but the issue is with that style button is that app needs to do the resizing you expect. outlook or visual studio, i don't think it is that useful. Spotify can only be resized so small for instance.

Yeah I hear ya. Progressive web or even just app store apps are likely to have breakpoints for narrow layouts but not a ton else.

I think a lot of apps do, but everything has different limits. More i think about it, i don't think this is a PT i'd really recommend, I'd say do FancyZones. If the community feels strongly, 100% lets revisit.
