Can't find the config file

As the tile says I can't find the config file. I created one in the command prompt window here.
But when I try to go to the same file location in the file explorer it apparently doesn't exist. And I have "show hiddin files" turned on.

What happens if you run

notepad "C:\Users\helln\AppData\Roaming\gallery-dl\config.json"

in the cmd prompt?

Well, there is definitely a valid JSON file at %APPDATA%\gallery-dl\config.json, otherwise it wouldn't get listed.

What happens when you run explorer %APPDATA%\gallery-dl in cmd.exe?

In my VM, it opens a folder containing config and cache file:

[MeanBeanMachine2024]

It just opens my documents folder for some reason

How would I be able to make a config file manually?

Right click -> New -> Text File
in the right folder, I think.

Sorry for the wait but I did finally upgrade Gallery-dl and tried out the new options

-config-status gives me this

And --config-open just opens my documents folder for some reason again

OK, so gallery-dl can open and read the file at %APPDATA%\gallery-dl\config.json and it even contains valid JSON. Why your Windows Explorer can't see and open it is beyond me, though.

That's what explorer.exe does when invoked with a path it can't find.
Try running explorer foo\bar

Displaying your config file contents should be possible with

Maybe it can be opened by invoking an editor directly instead of going through exploror.exe?

Good news I figured put how to do what I wanted to do without needing to edit the config file, So I might just have this question closed. Thanks a ton for the help but I'm just gonna chalk this one up to user error on my part.

I just had this problem and figured it out. If you go to windows explorer and go to user/appdata/ and do a search for config.json it will find it in the python folder . Just delete it and put one in manually where it belongs. I'm guessing it has something to do with no installing it on PATH.
