cameras are frozen #2392
Comments
Which version of motionEyeOS? begins 2019 or 2020 or it is very old.
How is the Pi3B+ powered and connected to your network?
NAS using FTP or SMB services?
When you say 'hang up' what do you mean, specifically? Does the stream
simply hang/stop updating? Go to an icon of a camera with the slashed
circle? Go to a grey screen with a last contacted date & time?
When it happens, do you simply power off/on the PI, or do you have to do
more?
PLEASE try to answer all these questions to the fullest of your ability.

I often have the problem that the cameras hang up. Motion is running and
drawing on the camera but the picture is frozen. what could be the reason?

Can you attach your messages.log, motion.log, and motioneye.log, please?
Can you ssh into the Pi3B+ and run the command
/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_temp
and report then result? (Checks the CPU Temperature)

screenshot of a frozen cam :( |
Having the same issue, video streams fine then freezes at some point. No rhyme or reason, but usually occurs in less than 2 hours. I can simply refresh the UI I'm viewing on, and video usually resumes. I don't think it's so much an issue with the camera/pi zero. |

Which version of motionEyeOS? begins 2019 or 2020 or it is very old. : 0.41 A little more about my setup: single Pi Zero W with csi/ribbon cable camera, running stock clocks, set in Fast Network Camera mode. I am not using it to record, just stream over wifi network. I am using it to monitor inside a small shed. |
Which version of motionEyeOS? begins 2019 or 2020 or it is very old. : 0.41 |
I just tried an 3.0A Power Supply - same problem here |
You didn't answer the questions...
Which version of motionEyeOS? begins 2019 or 2020 or it is very old. :
*0.41* << should begin 2019 or 2020, like 20190911 or20200203. If earlier,
upgrade and report
If you have access to console or ssh session, when it hangs, run the
command:
/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd get_throttled
and report the results. I will bet it's not 0x0 (no issues) If it reports
anything else, it indicates a temperature (of the PI) issue or voltage
issue (the number will be specific.
It can be that the PI itself is failing, too.

How is the Pi Zero W powered and connected to your network? *2.5A usb /
wifi 2.4ghz*
NAS using FTP or SMB services? *NAS using FTP*
When you say 'hang up' what do you mean, specifically? Does the stream
simply hang/stop updating? Go to an icon of a camera with the slashed
circle? Go to a grey screen with a last contacted date & time? *Freeze as
shown in the pictures above*
When it happens, do you simply power off/on the PI, or do you have to do
more? *reboot and afterwards it works for a while*

I am using motionEyeOS 20190911 because it is the latest release (no dev). ssh is no problem, result of /opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd get_throttled should i try the dev version? 20200223?? |
I recommend 20200203, not quite 'bleeding edge'....

20200203 installed... same issue here 😑 any further ideas for me? temp 37C ... |
Same Problem here MotioneyeOS 20190911 PSU is connected with a Voltage meassured on the Pi Pin Outputs minimum 5.1Volts NAS over Wifi Camera Freezes with the Timestamp on the Picture. After changing the Resolution and click apply mostly it fix the Issue for now. Resolution is 1600x1200 |
Did you have fullHD before? How many cameras? Every two oder three days it freezes ..... Where can I find the relevant Logs? |
I have only One Cam per Rpi Connected. Original Raspberry Camera Module.
Teh Log files on MotioneyeOs are in the WebUI > ExpertSettings In the meantime, I have followed an unconventional approach. For ffmpeg I used the instructions from @jasaw. motioneye-project/motioneye#930 (comment) For Motioneye and Motion I went to https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneye/wiki/Install-On-Raspbian, only replacing Motion with the latest version. My 2 Raspberry's have been running without interruption for 4 days and are busy recording. All error messages have disappeared. Hope that helps one or the other. Best regards |
At last a light at the end of the tunnel! |
I changed the resolution but same issue... |
