The behavior of the field component does not seem to differ on native date input and React Spectrum.
I suggest we also go the same route and not create a specific behavior (disallowing certain features like sometimes not marking the selection section) when the
readOnlyflag is toggled.This is also related to #12576 as #12609 had related changes.
