I think that this functionality is essential for the News application be an alternative to any other RSS client since they all have this basic feature. Can someone remove the stale state? Thank you |

The bot does that automatically one you reply… 'cause it's a bot, ya' know… 😜 |

If nobody is going to pick it up it will become a stale issue and will eventually be closed. You might consider it essential but unless someone will actually try and implement it issues are useless to keep around. |

I admit this issue is far more complex than i first thought when i opened it. |

I will reopen this as there seems to be an attempt to implement some kind of tags in all apps |

No need to reopen it, if someone wants to do the work they can make a PR. |

This would apply to quite a lot of issues we currently have but I don't like the Idea of simply closing them. |

IMHO leave it open and tag it with "help wanted" as that means: We may want that, but cannot implement it ourselves. (So you did so, and that is okay.) When you close an issue, it is either solved, or somehow rejected… |

@Grotax @SMillerDev Does one of you two has an enough large-scale view of the problem to give some clues here? I might want to give a hand too, but it can be a bit discouraging not to know where to start. |

Someone would basically have to rewrite the entire backend to replace all mentions of folders with tags. |

Replacing one word by another does not sound like a great deal. I suppose it will involve some database migrations too. I suppose next steps would be:
Would you accept a PR doing just the folder-tag replacement? |

It's not just about the word. It's about the structure and it'll take a rewrite of most of the app. |

Tossing my 2 cents into the pile, I CAN live without multiple tags, but it was indeed a headache migrating from Selfoss, and having to find a new way to organize my feeds. |

ATM, I am using Feedly where I use their Boards. At first, I considered the boards as folders for the starred websites, however, I have recently started adding a website to multiple Boards, thus they are essentially tags/labels. When I considered the Boards to be folders, I created an issue to request adding a feature like that in nextcloud/news-android#1323 (which is not the right repo, now I know). This is the only feature I really miss in NC News, and it blocks me from moving to it from Feedly. However, I also use folders to categorise the feeds by type (e.g. IT, news), therefore, I’d like to keep the feed folders feature and add the feed tags. I want to keep the tagged websites forever, while other (untagged) websites should be removed after some time (e.g. A similar feature is requested in #269 (and also in #1925). I actually don’t mind whether the feature is implemented this or that way, as long as I can bookmark/tag/label a website from NC News by swiping a website in a feed list and it won’t get deleted as long as it is bookmarked/tagged/labelled. NC News could use the bookmarks API (as suggested in here):
At the very least, we can already bookmark websites in NC Bookmarks from NC News on a phone:
However, IMHO the process is quite cumbersome. We should be able to bookmark/label/tag a website by doing three easy steps:
Note that I don’t care much about the web UI, as the current UI (both the web UI and Android app) is more than good for my use case (it could be improved though). In the end, I see two possible ways to implement this feature:

IMPORTANT
Read and tick the following checkbox after you have created the issue or place an x inside the brackets ;)
Currently the only way to organize your feeds is by folders. That can be problematic, when a feed can fit into two separate folders.
Other rss-reader apps have a tags or labels feature, enabling assigning multiple categories to a single feed. Thus, solving the problem described above.
I would very much like to begin and design a plugin that adds a tags feature. The user will be able to add new tags and describe each feed using those tags.
I'm new to the github community and would love to hear ideas, tips or inspiring quotes from other contributors here. Maybe someone began working on a similar feature and i can join in and help.
