Proposed changes
Problem: Go linting is failing in the pipeline and locally (e.g. https://github.com/nginxinc/nginx-kubernetes-gateway/actions/runs/5907193564/job/16024687810)
Solution: Fix the issues described in the linting issues
Testing: Made sure go lint passes
Note: Not all of these are failing in the pipeline, and also were not caught by the PR pipeline(s) that introduced the changes.
The G601 issues fixed in this PR in particular I only discovered when working on a different branch.
