Hardware installation (Raymarine)

The supported Raymarine radars are very easy to use with OpenCPN. All you need is a wired Ethernet connection.

You can add as many computers as desired, the system will allow operation from all connected MFDs (plotters) and computers.

E series displays

Older RD radars connect via a thick cable directly into a Radar display or an older MFD like the "E Series Classic legacy Display". These displays have a Seatalk hs port, which is nothing else than Ethernet. The Seatalk hs physical connection is a standard RJ45 jack with a weatherproof collar.

Connect an Ethernet switch and link it to the Seatalk hs port on your display.

Newer radars with Ethernet port

If you have one of the newer ones (RD...D) with a model number ending in "D" for "Digital" that has an Ethernet RJ45 jack, or a Quantum radar, connect that directly to an Ethernet switch. If you have a Raymarine MFD, connect this to the switch as well.

Quantum with WiFi: does not work

There have been several reports of this not working. To protect their installed base, Raymarine uses a special not-yet-discovered protocol to "unlock" the WiFi connection.
