We are continuing to see mysterious VPD read failures. This explicitly records any failures to read VPD, as well as any unrelated chunks that are encountered when reading it (as we don't expect any) -- and it trims the SPD ring buffer logging to unexpected conditions to maximize ring buffer reach.
