I'm a software and database developer and infrastructure engineer. I spent the first seventeen years of my career working almost exclusively for non-profits. The past few years has had me working in the for-profit world but my heart is in technology to make a positive impact on the world and the people around me. I dabble in a little bit of everything as I am able to.
A few areas where I specialize:
- Database design and optimization, specifically on PostgreSQL, but also other databases like Cassandra, Redis, and SQLite.
- Data processing and pipeline building, specifically in Python. (Though I started with Perl for many, many years.) I've also worked in Java, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Building out cloud environments with Terraform including networking, specifically on AWS.
- Kubernetes administration and application development and deployment.
- Infrastructure coordination and automation, particularly with Terraform, Ansible, and Python.
- Mentoring other developers of all levels of experience in new to them technologies with an aim to level up my team so that we can all succeed together.

🔭 The technologies that I currently use or have recently used include:
🌱 Currently I am currently learning:
🧑🏻💻 Currently I am currently working on:
- An ActivityPub instance for a single-user.
- A Heroku/Dokku-like build and deployment system for easy application deployment into Kubernetes.
- A miniature monitoring system for when you just want to know if your stuff is working and don't want to deploy Prometheus or Datadog.
- Yet another time tracking application that aligns with my brain.
- An aggregator for Seattle traffic events so I can get around the city more easily.
- A website for friends to share things that they are willing to let others borrow.
- A proxy application for connecting to Enphase Envoy solar panel system and then graphing the data.
None of these may come to fruition, but they're what I'm working on nonetheless. When things start to become available then I will add links above.
