@No1e : using the approach described in #1081 works as well for files, but I'll do some work to also add a rename method on IFile to make this operation easier

@No1e : just pushed the change for this, as of tomorrow's build you use a Rename method on IFile, just like you've been able to use on IFolder. Closing the issue now. Thanks for using PnP Core SDK.
