remove useless substitute when 'file =~# "/$"' #773

I'm studying the code of this plugin. One thing I can't understand is why let curFile = substitute(curFile, '/\?$', '/', "") is done while curFile =~# '/$'. In my understanding, '/\?$' stands for 'one or zero / at the end of line', so the substitution is useless. I think maybe it is truly useless or maybe someone can tell me why we need that substitution. Thanks!
