Preferred Network
TetherFi works by receiving requests from connecting devices and talking to the Internet "for them" like a middleman or a messenger - relaying information between your connecting device and the Internet on behalf of your connecting device.
TetherFi from version 49 onward has the ability to select a Preferred Network, which will attempt to influence which network your connection travels over.
By default there are three options, the "Active Network", prefer "Wi-Fi" and prefer "Cellular Data".
Connections will go over whatever Internet connection your device is connected to currently. This means if your Android device is on a Wi-Fi network, proxy connections will travel over that same Wi-Fi network. If your Android device is on a Cellular network, proxy connections will travel over cellular data.
Connections will go over a Wi-Fi network IF A VALID ONE EXISTS. Otherwise it will always failover to the Active Network. For many use cases, there is no difference between this option and the Active Network option - as Android almost always prefers Wi-Fi over all other connections.
Connections will go over a Wi-Fi network IF A VALID ONE EXISTS. Otherwise it will always failover to the Active Network. In many cases, this means that even though your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, all connecting devices will still use your cellular data.
