Separate from rfc1036#176 as this one is a bit less clear-cut. The IANA info still lists whois.afilias-srs.net . However, as explained in rfc1036#176, Afilias was bought in 2020 and the successor organization is named Identity Digital; they have already let one Afilias domain which hosted a whois server lapse (see rfc1036#177) so the chances of this happening again seem non-zero, and it may be wise to change this. whois.nic.pr , following the pretty common convention that a lot of other TLDs use, is set up and points to the same Identity Digital catch-all server that whois.afilias-srs.net currently points to, so it seems like a sensible choice (and one that the maintainer of the .pr TLD cannot lose control over). whois2.afilias-grs.net is listed as the server for .vc and .lc . There is no working whois server at that address as I type this. The afilias-grs.net domain seems to have lapsed at some point. It is no longer owned by Identity Digital, the successor organization to Afilias, but by some kinda sketchy-seeming domain parking/expired-domain-swooping operation named dropcatch/parklogic , as best as I can tell (whois for afilias-grs.net lists DropCatch.com as the owner, addresses on afilias-grs.net seem to redirect to parklogic.com ).
I would guess the most appropriate server name now is likely whois.identitydigital.services (as whois.nic.vc and whois.nic.lc don't seem to be set up), but it would probably be good to clarify this with the folks who look after the vc and lc TLDs?
