  • #1989 Support checkpointing. The ability to create persistent checkpoints, and possibly even attach rr to a running process, would be pretty great.
  • #2410 Support x86 Android.
  • #2507 Support recording applications that use the GPU via GL. Currently we try to just force CPU rendering but we can do better.
  • If rr worked in VirtualBox that would mean there's a free solution to running rr in Linux guests on Mac and Windows. That would require implementing PMU virtualization in VirtualBox, not really an rr issue, but very valuable!
  • Ambitious: I'm interested in what could be done if we relax the "unmodified kernel" constraint. Arnold assumes no data races, which I would rather not do. UMich and VMWare did some hypervisor-based whole-OS record-and-replay work, using page permissions to prevent races, but performance was bad. But what if we tried to replay only userspace with a modified kernel (like Arnold), but unlike Arnold used existing page-permissions hardware to prevent races? AFAIK no-one has actually had a serious attempt at that design point. I have some specific ideas about how to structure this.
