Avoid the path trimming ICE lint in error reporting #117373
Conversation
r? @TaKO8Ki (rustbot has picked a reviewer for you, use r? to override) |
Some changes occurred to the CTFE / Miri engine cc @rust-lang/miri |
Can you share any information about how to test or repro this? Or how you even encountered this in the first place? |
We format types all over the place in interpreter errors and debug logs. Does this mean we have to decorate all those places the same as these? That would be quite bad. |

…r-errors Avoid the path trimming ICE lint in error reporting Types or really anything in MIR should never be formatted without path trimming disabled, because its formatting often tries to construct trimmed paths. In this case, the lint turns a nice error report into an irrelevant ICE.

If anyone else was confused why @compiler-errors just un-did what @GuillaumeGomez did without any further explanation, see here. |
With my limited knowledge, I saw it failed in miri and this PR was the only one making changes in miri so I deducted that it might be the one. So I commented "I think" it failed in the rollup I linked and added r-. Unless I missed something, it's pretty common in such cases. My bad if more explanations were needed. |
Nono you are fine, I just would have wished @compiler-errors had said a few words about why he's un-doing your decision. No big deal though, just a minute worth of confusion until I found the other PR. :) |
