It just looks better, especially since the other lists do it.
I don't work for The Chronicle anymore, so I shouldn't say I do.

It occurred to me from the Data Smells session at NICAR (which refers to this repo for advice) that I never did add the IPEDS stuff I wrote awhile back for #2.
This doesn't include @crccheck's info about the other way to handle the data, since he knows more about that part of things (and I think was working on writing some stuff already), so I don't want to close that issue until things get properly combined (which I can take a crack at this evening), but a central listing of datasets isn't very useful if people like me keep info sequestered in forks until it's perfect...
