Adds comments functionality to Rails/ActiveRecord models. It uses the ancestry gem to add thread/reply.
Add this line to your application's Gemfile:
gem 'commentable_on'
And then execute:
$ bundle install
Or install it yourself as:
$ gem install commentable_on
Generate migration and run migrations
rails generate commentable_on:migration
rails db:migrate
Make model commentable
class Post < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_commentable
end
Add a comment to model instance:
@post = Post.find(params[:post_id])
@post.add_comment(commenter: current_user, body: "Awesome")
Create reply
comment = commenter.first
@post.create_reply(comment: comment, commenter: current_user, body: "awesome reply")
Get all root comments
@post = Post.find(params[:post_id])
@post.root_comments
Get all replies for a comment
comment = @post.comments.first
@post.replies_for(comment)
Get thread for a comment
comment = @post.comments.first
@post.thread_for(comment)

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup
to install dependencies. Then, run rake spec
to run the tests. You can also run bin/console
for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.
To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install
. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb
, and then run bundle exec rake release
, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and tags, and push the .gem
file to rubygems.org.
