Automatic musical instrument recognition from polyphonic music audio signals. Instrument recognition is done using classification techniques.
In particular, the developed method models 11 instrumental categories, including pitched and percussive instruments as well as the human singing voice, all of them frequently adopted in Western music. The instruments considered are: cello (cel), clarinet (cla), flute(flu), acoustic guitar (gac), electric guitar (gel), organ (org), piano (pia), saxophone (sax), trumpet (tru), violin (vio), and human singing voice (voi). Additionally we include the singing Voice, since its presence or absence in a given musical composition can carry important semantic information.
