What I Work On

The world is facing too many problems for top-down solutions. I want to empower people to work on hardware & technology so they can solve their own problems as they know best. In particular I'm interested in agricultural technology; my background is in biosystems engineering.

FreeCAD & Friends

I am a developer, packager, project administrator and sysadmin for the FreeCAD project, an open-source (LGPL) 3D parametric modeler written in C++/Python, with powerful Python extensibility.

I maintain the FreeCAD Maintainers PPA which provides Ubuntu packages for FreeCAD and its dependencies, and the FreeCAD Community PPA which provides packages for various 3rd party integrations, such as:

• Gmsh, a 3D finite element mesh generator with pre- and post-processing capabilities
• OpenFOAM, an open source computational fluid dynamics toolbox
• Netgen, an automatic 3D tetrahedral mesh generator
• OpenCAMLib, a computer-aided manufacturing algorithms library
• Calculix, a 3D structural finite element program,
• IFCOpenShell, a library for working with the IFC file format, used to describe building and construction data in Building Information Modeling (BIM)
• ... and more

Many of these packages are GPL, maintained as separate optional integrations for FreeCAD, and called out to as binaries.

Debian Science Team

I also maintain or contribute to all of the packages above in Debian as part of the Science Team, with the goal of providing researchers and scientists a better experience using Debian.

I maintain an ideally-monthly blog at kwk.systems/blog where I post updates about my work.

For the time being, quite a bit of my work will be visible at Salsa, the Debian project's GitLab instance, instead of here. I'm interested in some better automation so that there's visibility into that work on GitHub as well.
