I'm Nic! I also sometimes go as thisisnic. I'm an R developer, and part of the team who maintains the arrow R package.

I got involved in Apache Arrow after seeing a Twitter post at Ursa Labs talking about an "Open Source Maintainer Apprenticeship". It sounded like the coolest thing ever, and so I applied, and was absolutely astounded to get accepted. I've had an amazing time learning about being deeply involved in open source, and developing my skills as a developer and project maintainer. While I'm the maintainer of the package on CRAN, I'm really part of a wider team.

I'm currently having a career break, spending my time learning and working on some open source projects:

• co-authoring a book on Arrow
• volunteering with RLadies and helping chapters getting set up on meetup.com
• continuing to maintain the arrow R package

I'm planning on using GitHub sponsorship to help fund my plans of spending more time working on Arrow, and delivering talks and workshops.
