Setting up a Jenkins CI/CD Pipeline with GitHub Integration

This guide will walk you through the process of setting up a Jenkins CI/CD pipeline integrated with GitHub for your project.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following prerequisites in place:

  • A Jenkins server installed and configured.
  • A GitHub repository for your project.

Installation and Configuration

1. Install Jenkins

Install Jenkins on a server or machine that is accessible from your GitHub repository.

2. Install Required Plugins

In Jenkins, you will need to install the following plugins:

  • GitHub Integration Plugin

3. Create a New Jenkins Job

  1. Click on "New Item" in Jenkins.

4. Configure Source Code Management

6. Build Steps

7. Post-Build Actions

Configure post-build actions, such as archiving artifacts, sending notifications, or deploying to a staging server.

8. GitHub Webhook

  1. In your GitHub repository, go to "Settings" > "Webhooks."
  2. Add a webhook that points to your Jenkins server's URL. This webhook will notify Jenkins of any new commits.

9. Testing and Deployment

As part of your build steps, you can integrate automated testing. For deployment, you can use plugins or scripts to push the built artifacts to your production server.

10. Monitor and Debug

Monitor your Jenkins pipeline for any issues or failures. Use Jenkins logs and notifications to quickly identify and address problems.

With this setup, Jenkins will automatically build and test your code whenever changes are pushed to your GitHub repository. It provides a robust CI/CD workflow to streamline your development process.
