Pika icon, an eye against a multicoloured background

Product vision

Pika is an open-source colour picker app for macOS. It is aimed at designers and developers who need to quickly and reliably get the colour value onscreen, in the format they need, while keeping accessibility in mind. Pika does a simple thing well, transparently, for free.

What Pika is

  • Beautiful
  • Friendly
  • Accessibility-focused
  • Open-source
  • Community-oriented
  • Aimed at design on the web (like colors in CSS, WCAG compliance, etc)
  • Trying new ideas via beta releases

What Pika is not

  • A colour generator
  • A design system tool
  • Overcomplicated
  • Unreliable
  • Able to record the screen / overly permissive (so, currently, using Apple's NSColorSampler)

Product and development

Pika is hosted, documented, managed, and deployed thorugh GitHub, using issues for feature requests and bug reports, the project roadmap for planning, releases for distribution, and the wiki for everything else.

Deployment toolchain

Pika's deployment toolchain is powered by ✨ Releasecast and NextJS, and is hosted on Heroku. The app itself is released through GitHub.
