as gotosocial.org y a simple plain html website I just added some basic css (top menu to select language), without javascript, new assets, etc.
menu is as simple as possible, just removed underline decoration from links (kept the same default color) and use white-ish background to bring user attention to this feature
put index.XX.html on top level (and not in folder) so it's not needed to change links to assets and simplifies translators work
