monorepo fixup: Merge --theirs all the untracked dirs in swift/master #16

Because LLDB branched significantly later than the other tracked
directories, the generated content for swift/master has a much newer
version of the untracked directories (llgo, polly, lld, etc.) than
apple/stable/20190619.

@hyp did the work to fix this, running:

for repo in debuginfo-tests libclc libcxxabi \
            libunwind lld llgo openmp parallel-libs polly pstl
do
  git rm -rf $repo > /dev/null
  latest_commit=$(git rev-list HEAD -n1 -- $repo)
  tree=$(git rev-parse origin/apple/stable/20190619:$repo)
  git read-tree --prefix=$repo $tree
done

I've just simplified by making this a simple re-merge from
the merge-base with apple/stable/20190619 instead of an octopus from the
last commit to each directory above (which seems to unnecessarily
compilicate git log --graph).

In case anyone does care about those commits, here they are:

@swift-ci test

(although, we know at least one test will fail because it modifies directories outside of lldb/)

This is the failure we expected.

@hyp, let me know if this looks good.

Summary:
The greedy register allocator occasionally decides to insert a large number of
unnecessary copies, see below for an example. The -consider-local-interval-cost
option (which X86 already enables by default) fixes this. We enable this option
for AArch64 only after receiving feedback that this change is not beneficial for
PowerPC.

We evaluated the impact of this change on compile time, code size and
performance benchmarks.

This option has a small impact on compile time, measured on CTMark. A 0.1%
geomean regression on -O1 and -O2, and 0.2% geomean for -O3, with at most 0.5%
on individual benchmarks.

The effect on both code size and performance on AArch64 for the LLVM test suite
is nil on the geomean with individual outliers (ignoring short exec_times)
between:

                 best     worst
  size..text     -3.3%    +0.0%
  exec_time      -5.8%    +2.3%

On SPEC CPU® 2017 (compiled for AArch64) there is a minor reduction (-0.2% at
most) in code size on some benchmarks, with a tiny movement (-0.01%) on the
geomean. Neither intrate nor fprate show any change in performance.

This patch makes the following changes.

- For the AArch64 target, enableAdvancedRASplitCost() now returns true.

- Ensures that -consider-local-interval-cost=false can disable the new
  behaviour if necessary.

This matrix multiply example:

   $ cat test.c
   long A[8][8];
   long B[8][8];
   long C[8][8];

   void run_test() {
     for (int k = 0; k < 8; k++) {
       for (int i = 0; i < 8; i++) {
	 for (int j = 0; j < 8; j++) {
	   C[i][j] += A[i][k] * B[k][j];
	 }
       }
     }
   }

results in the following generated code on AArch64:

  $ clang --target=aarch64-arm-none-eabi -O3 -S test.c -o -
  [...]
                                        // %for.cond1.preheader

This patch adds intrinsics for SVE gather loads from memory addresses generated by a vector base plus immediate index:
  * @llvm.aarch64.sve.ld1.gather.imm

This intrinsics maps 1-1 to the corresponding SVE instruction (example for half-words):
  * ld1h { z0.d }, p0/z, [z0.d, #16]

Summary:
When moving add and sub to memory operand instructions,
aarch64-ldst-opt would prematurally pop the stack pointer,
before memory instructions that do access the stack using
indirect loads.
e.g.
```
int foo(int offset){
    int local[4] = {0};
    return local[offset];
}
```
would generate:
```
sub     sp, sp, #16            ; Push the stack
mov     x8, sp                 ; Save stack in register
stp     xzr, xzr, [sp], #16    ; Zero initialize stack, and post-increment, making it invalid
------ If an exception goes here, the stack value might be corrupted
ldr     w0, [x8, w0, sxtw #2]  ; Access correct position, but it is not guarded by SP
This reverts commit 30d5946.
swift-ci pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Apr 22, 2020
This adds some extra processing into the Pre-RA ARM load/store optimizer
to detect and merge MVE loads/stores and adds of the same base. This we
don't always turn into a post-inc during ISel, and due to the nature of
it being a graph we don't always know an order to use for the nodes, not
knowing which nodes to make post-inc and which to use the new post-inc
of. After ISel, we have an order that we can use to post-inc the
following instructions.
So this looks for a loads/store with a starting offset of 0, and an
add/sub from the same base, plus a number of other loads/stores. We then
do some checks and convert the zero offset load/store into a postinc
variant. Any loads/stores after it have the offset subtracted from their
immediates.  For example:
  LDR #4           LDR #4
  LDR #0           LDR_POSTINC #16
  LDR #8           LDR #-8
  LDR #12          LDR #-4
  ADD #16
It only handles MVE loads/stores at the moment. Normal loads/store will
be added in a followup patch, they just have some extra details to
ensure that we keep generating LDRD/LDM successfully.
I.e. it calls abort(), suggests to submit a bug report and exits with the code 134.
This patch changes the logic to propagate errors to callers.
This fixes the behavior for llvm-dwarfdump, llvm-readobj and other possible tools.
When `Target::GetEntryPointAddress()` calls `exe_module->GetObjectFile()->GetEntryPointAddress()`, and the returned
`entry_addr` is valid, it can immediately be returned.
However, just before that, an `llvm::Error` value has been setup, but in this case it is not consumed before returning, like is done further below in the function.
In https://bugs.freebsd.org/248745 we got a bug report for this, where a very simple test case aborts and dumps core:
```
* thread #1, name = 'testcase', stop reason = breakpoint 1.1

   2	{
-> 3	    return 0;
   4	}
(lldb) p argc
Program aborted due to an unhandled Error:

CXXDeductionGuideDecl with a local typedef has its own copy of the
TypedefDecl with the CXXDeductionGuideDecl as the DeclContext of that
TypedefDecl.
```
      template <typename T> struct A {
        typedef T U;
        A(U, T);
      };
      A a{(int)0, (int)0};
```
Related discussion on cfe-dev:
http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/cfe-dev/2020-November/067252.html

Without this fix, when we import the CXXDeductionGuideDecl (via
VisitFunctionDecl) then before creating the Decl we must import the
FunctionType. However, the first parameter's type is the afore mentioned
local typedef. So, we then start importing the TypedefDecl whose
DeclContext is the CXXDeductionGuideDecl itself. The infinite loop is
formed.

```
The fix is to first create the TypedefDecl and only then start to import
the DeclContext.
Basically, we could do this during the import of all other Decls (not
just for typedefs). But it seems, there is only one another AST
construct that has a similar cycle: a struct defined as a function
parameter:
```
int struct_in_proto(struct data_t{int a;int b;} *d);

```
In that case, however, we had decided to return simply with an error
back then because that seemed to be a very rare construct.
This also includes PC-relative addresses since they are still
referenced as absolute addresses in assembly and converted to
This changes, for example:
Although THREADLOCAL variables are supported on Darwin they cannot be
used very early on during process init (before dyld has set it up).
Unfortunately the checked lock is used before dyld has setup TLS leading
to an abort call (`_tlv_boostrap()` is never supposed to be called at
runtime).
To avoid this problem `SANITIZER_CHECK_DEADLOCKS` is now disabled on
Darwin platforms. This fixes running TSan tests (an possibly other
Sanitizers) when `COMPILER_RT_DEBUG=ON`.
For reference the crashing backtrace looks like this:
swift-ci pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Oct 14, 2021
The patch attempts to optimize a sequence of SIMD loads from the same
base pointer:
    %0 = gep float*, float* base, i32 4
    %1 = bitcast float* %0 to <4 x float>*
    %2 = load <4 x float>, <4 x float>* %1
    ...
    %n1 = gep float*, float* base, i32 N
    %n2 = bitcast float* %n1 to <4 x float>*
    %n3 = load <4 x float>, <4 x float>* %n2
For AArch64 the compiler generates a sequence of LDR Qt, [Xn, #16].
However, 32-bit NEON VLD1/VST1 lack the [Wn, #imm] addressing mode, so
the address is computed before every ld/st instruction:
    add r2, r0, #32
    add r0, r0, #16
    vld1.32 {d18, d19}, [r2]
    vld1.32 {d22, d23}, [r0]
This can be improved by computing address for the first load, and then
using a post-indexed form of VLD1/VST1 to load the rest:
    add r0, r0, #16
    vld1.32 {d18, d19}, [r0]!
    vld1.32 {d22, d23}, [r0]
In order to do that, the patch adds more patterns to DAGCombine:
  - (load (add ptr inc1)) and (add ptr inc2) are now folded if inc1
    and inc2 are constants.
  - (or ptr inc) is now recognized as a pointer increment if ptr is
    sufficiently aligned.
In addition to that, we now search for all possible base updates and
then pick the best one.
But @bjope also reported similar crashes.
So, I'm reverting it to make our internal bots happy again.
Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D106102
swift-ci pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Oct 25, 2021
Motivation:
At the moment it is hard to attribute a clangd crash to a specific request out of all in-flight requests that might be processed concurrently. So before we can act on production clangd crashes, we have to do quite some digging through the log tables populated by our in-house VSCode extension or sometimes even directly reach out to the affected developer. Having all the details needed to reproduce a crash printed alongside its stack trace has a potential to save us quite some time, that could better be spent on fixing the actual problems.
Implementation approach:
* introduce `ThreadCrashReporter` class that allows to set a temporary signal handler for the current thread
* follow RAII pattern to simplify printing context for crashes occurring within a particular scope
* hold `std::function` as a handler to allow capturing context to print
* set local `ThreadCrashReporter` within `JSONTransport::loop()` to print request JSON for main thread crashes, and in `ASTWorker::run()` to print the file paths, arguments and contents for worker thread crashes
`ThreadCrashReporter` currently allows only one active handler per thread, but the approach can be extended to support stacked handlers printing context incrementally.
Example output for main thread crashes:
  ```
  ...
  #15 0x00007f7ddc819493 __libc_start_main (/lib64/libc.so.6+0x23493)

  ```
Example output for AST worker crashes:
  ```
  ...

The unit test covers the thread-localitity and nesting aspects of `ThreadCrashReporter`. There might be way to set up a lit-based integration test that would spawn clangd, send a message to it, signal it immediately and check the standard output, but this might be prone to raceconditions.

We were producing invalid instructions like "ubfx w0, w0, #20, #16".

…n a loop

When untagging the stack, the compiler may emit a sequence like:
```
        .LBB0_1:
          st2g sp, [sp], #32
          sub x8, x8, #32
          cbnz x8, .LBB0_1
          stg sp, [sp], #16
```
These stack adjustments cannot be described by CFI instructions.

This patch disables merging of SP update with untagging, i.e. makes the
compiler use an additional scratch register (there should be plenty
available at this point as we are in the epilogue) and generate:
```
            mov     x9, sp
            mov     x8, #256
            stg     x9, [x9], #16
    .LBB0_1:
            sub     x8, x8, #32
            st2g    x9, [x9], #32
            cbnz    x8, .LBB0_1
            add     sp, sp, #272
```
Merging is disabled only when we need to generate asynchronous unwind
tables.

the swift branch.

The function IRExecutionUnit::PopulateSymtab() is only implemented in swift-lldb.

One thing it does is resolve any unresolved global symbols in the JIT
module. This global search can cause the JIT module to recursively be
asked for its symtab.

This patch works around the problem by removing the JIT module from
the list of modules being searched while in PopulateSymtab. That isn't
done in the most elegant fashion, as it does so by changing the state
of the IRExecutionUnit object.

adrian-prantl added a commit to adrian-prantl/llvm-project that referenced this pull request Jan 20, 2023
the swift branch.

This change prevents rare deadlocks observed for specific macOS/iOS GUI
applications which issue many `dlopen()` calls from multiple different
threads at startup and where TSan finds and reports a race during
startup. Providing a reliable test for this has been deemed infeasible.

Although I've only observed this deadlock on Apple platforms,
conceptually the cause is not confined to Apple code so the fix lives in
platform-independent code.

Deadlock scenario:
```
Thread 2                    | Thread 4
ReportRace()                |
Lock internal TSan mutexes  |
  &ctx->slot_mtx            |
                            | dlopen() interceptor
                            | OnLibraryLoaded()
                            | MemoryMappingLayout::DumpListOfModules()
                            | calls dyld API, which takes internal lock
                            | lock() interceptor
                            | TSan tries to take internal mutexes again
                            |   &ctx->slot_mtx
call into symbolizer        |
MemoryMappingLayout::DumpListOfModules()
calls dyld API, which hangs on trying to take lock
```
Resulting in:
* Thread 2 has internal TSan mutex, blocked on dyld lock
* Thread 4 has dyld lock, blocked on internal TSan mutex

The fix prevents this situation by not intercepting any of the calls
originating from `MemoryMappingLayout::DumpListOfModules()`.

Stack traces for deadlock between ReportRace() and dlopen() interceptor:

`__xray_customevent` and `__xray_typedevent` are built-in functions in Clang.
With -fxray-instrument, they are lowered to intrinsics llvm.xray.customevent and
llvm.xray.typedevent, respectively. These intrinsics are then lowered to
TargetOpcode::{PATCHABLE_EVENT_CALL,PATCHABLE_TYPED_EVENT_CALL}. The target is
responsible for generating a code sequence that calls either
`__xray_CustomEvent` (with 2 arguments) or `__xray_TypedEvent` (with 3
arguments).

Before patching, the code sequence is prefixed by a branch instruction that
skips the rest of the code sequence. After patching
(compiler-rt/lib/xray/xray_AArch64.cpp), the branch instruction becomes a NOP
and the function call will take effects.

This patch implements the lowering process for
{PATCHABLE_EVENT_CALL,PATCHABLE_TYPED_EVENT_CALL} and implements the runtime.

```
// Lowering of PATCHABLE_EVENT_CALL
.Lxray_sled_N:
  b  #24
  stp x0, x1, [sp, #-16]!
  x0 = reg of op0
  x1 = reg of op1
  bl __xray_CustomEvent
  ldrp x0, x1, [sp], #16
```

As a result, two updated tests in compiler-rt/test/xray/TestCases/Posix/ now
pass on AArch64.

The crash happens in clang::driver::tools::SplitDebugName when Output is

output is created in Driver::BuildJobsForActionNoCache.

After llvm#68052 this function changed from returning
a nullptr with `return {};` to returning Expected and hitting `llvm_unreachable` before it could
do so.

I gather that we're never supposed to call this function, but on Windows we actually do call
this function because `interpreter->CreateScriptedProcessInterface()` returns
`ScriptedProcessInterface` not `ScriptedProcessPythonInterface`. Likely because
`target_sp->GetDebugger().GetScriptInterpreter()` also does not return a Python related class.

The previously XFAILed test crashed with:

That might be a bug on the Windows side, or an artifact of how our build is setup,
but whatever it is, having `CreatePluginObject` return an error and
the caller check it, fixes the failing test.

The built lldb can run the script command to use Python, but I'm not sure if that means
anything.

Factor out some stack allocation in a separate function. This patch
splits out the generic portion of a larger refactoring done as a part of
stack clash protection support.

The patch is almost, but not quite NFC. The only difference should
be that where we have adjacent allocation of stack space
for local SVE objects and non-local SVE objects the order
of `sub sp, ...` and `addvl sp, ...` instructions is reversed, because now
it's done with a single call to `emitFrameOffset` and it happens
add/subtract the fixed part before the scalable part, e.g.

    addvl sp, sp, #-2
    sub sp, sp, #16, lsl #12
    sub sp, sp, #16

becomes

    sub sp, sp, #16, lsl #12
    sub sp, sp, #16
    addvl sp, sp, #-2

Add custom combine to lower load <3 x i8> as the more efficient sequence
below:
   ldrb wX, [x0, swiftlang#2]
   ldrh wY, [x0]
   orr wX, wY, wX, lsl swiftlang#16
   fmov s0, wX

At the moment, there are almost no cases in which such vector operations
will be generated automatically. The motivating case is non-power-of-2

An immediate integer operand not prefixed with # can also be followed
by "lsl". Parse "lsl".
In the wild, edk2 ArmPkg/Include/AsmMacroIoLibV8.h has
`movz      Reg, (Val) >> 16, lsl #16`.

Note: our support for paren expression not prefixed with # is not very
good. For example, `adds x3, x4, (1024>>0), lsl 12` fails to be parsed.

TestCases/Misc/Linux/sigaction.cpp fails because dlsym() may call malloc
on failure. And then the wrapped malloc appears to access thread local
storage using global dynamic accesses, thus calling
___interceptor___tls_get_addr, before REAL(__tls_get_addr) has
been set, so we get a crash inside ___interceptor___tls_get_addr. For
example, this can happen when looking up __isoc23_scanf which might not
exist in some libcs.

Fix this by marking the thread local variable accessed inside the
debug checks as "initial-exec", which does not require __tls_get_addr.

This is probably a better alternative to llvm#83886.

This fixes a different crash but is related to llvm#46204.

While lowering (#pragma omp target update from), clang's generated
.omp_task_entry. is setting up 9 arguments while calling
__tgt_target_data_update_nowait_mapper.

At the same time, in __tgt_target_data_update_nowait_mapper, call to
targetData<TaskAsyncInfoWrapperTy>() is converted to a sibcall assuming
it has the argument count listed in the signature.

AARCH64 asm sequence for this is as follows (removed unrelated insns):

`
.omp_task_entry..108:
  sub   sp, sp, #32
  stp   x29, x30, sp, #16       // 16-byte Folded Spill
  add   x29, sp, #16
  str   x8, sp, #8. // stack canary
  str   xzr, [sp]
  bl   __tgt_target_data_update_nowait_mapper

__tgt_target_data_update_nowait_mapper:
  sub   sp, sp, #32
  stp   x29, x30, sp, #16       // 16-byte Folded Spill
  add   x29, sp, #16
  str   x8, sp, #8 // stack canary
  // Sibcall argument setup

  adrp  x8, .L.str.8
  add   x8, x8, :lo12:.L.str.8
  str   x8, x29, #32. <==. This is the insn that erases $fp

  ldp   x29, x30, sp, #16       // 16-byte Folded Reload
  add   sp, sp, #32
  // Sibcall

`

On AArch64, call to __tgt_target_data_update_nowait_mapper in
.omp_task_entry. sets up only single space on stack and this results in
ovewriting $fp and subsequent stack corruption. This issue can be
credited to discrepancy of __tgt_target_data_update_nowait_mapper
signature in openmp/libomptarget/include/omptarget.h taking 13 arguments
while clang/lib/CodeGen/CGOpenMPRuntime.cpp and
llvm/include/llvm/Frontend/OpenMP/OMPKinds.def taking only 9 arguments.

This patch modifies __tgt_target_data_update_nowait_mapper signature to
match .omp_task_entry usage(and other 2 files mentioned above).

Fix llvm#71917

Note: This PR is try relanding the commit 32878c2 with fix crash for PR79756
  this crash is exposes when there is MOVKWi instruction in the head of a block,
but without MOVZWi

The worst possible case for a double literal goes like:

```
  mov ...
  movk ..., lsl #16
  movk ..., lsl #32
  movk ..., lsl #48
  fmov ...
```

The limit of 5 in the code gives the impression that `Insn` includes all
instructions including the `fmov`, but that's not true. It only counts
the integer moves. This led me astray on some other work in this area.

…xtend (llvm#105375)

GCC compiles the built-in function `__builtin_bswap16`, to the ARM
instruction rev16, which reverses the byte order of 16-bit data. On the
other Clang compiles the same built-in function to e.g.
```
        rev     w8, w0
        lsr     w0, w8, #16
```
i.e. it performs a byte reversal of a 32-bit register, (which moves the
lower half, which contains the 16-bit data, to the upper half) and then
right shifts the reversed 16-bit data back to the lower half of the
register.
We can improve Clang codegen by generating `rev16` instead of `rev` and
`lsr`, like GCC.
