In the screenshot below, I have a clock object with a method named begin. Now when I type clock.be and then press tab, I get stuck with the following message in minibuffer -

Pinging clock.be (The Kingdom of Belgium)...

spacemacs-bug

Sounds a lot like this reddit thread and this issue. Does adding this line to your dotspacemacs/config solve the problem? (taken from technomancy/emacs-starter-kit#39 (comment))

(setq ffap-machine-p-known 'reject)

If it doesn't solve the issue, can you post the value of company-backends? (use SPC h d v company-backends to find it)

@bmag I did as you said in my dotspacemacs/config. I am not able to reproduce the issue now.
Thanks.

Maybe we need to set it as default. I need to investigate what this variable does first though :-)

I can not reproduce this bug. Is it still valid?

I've reproduced this recently... I don't remember how

I have too. I also don't remember how, but I fixed it as advertised in this thread.

@TheBB Should this fix be included in Spacemacs?

I'm not sure but leaning towards... yes?

Is it currently in spacemacs?

It's why I asked if we should fix it in Spacemacs 😛

FYI I hit this while coding this weekend.

I think this is a bad default. We can probably use what's proposed in this mail, and document in the FAQ how to revert it.

Previously,

* typing `gf` in domain names (for example google.com) in normal buffers
* typing `<tab>` in domain names in the minibuffer

would start pinging that domain name. This is not really useful, so
disable it.

Fixes syl20bnr#2654.
