We can use a couple more extensions like "org", "md". But I will leave it to you to decide.
And deft-recursive is pretty useful too.

Setting deft-extension breaks the possibility of using deft-extensions. Deft does a boundp check on deft-extension and overrides the new deft-extensions (each time deft-mode is run).

The deft default for deft-extensions, '("txt" "text" "md" "markdown" "org"), seem pretty decent to leave alone.

So... Maybe just removing deft-extension from the setq?
