Describe the feature

When automerge files it should indicate to the user why

Why is this feature important?

Right now the error message is that an unexpected temporary error occurred. However automerge can fail for a number of reasons that should be communicated back to the user. This way the user can distinguish between an actual meaningful failure to them or when auto merge cannot be performed for expected reasons.
