📌 wg-make

wg-make is a tool to help set up WireGuard based networks. Currently, it generates configurations for peers according to a single network description file.

Features

wg-make enables you to:

  • Version control the configurations of your networks
  • Have an overview of your network in a single file

wg-make saves you from:

  • Keeping track of different versions of configuration files on peers
  • Considering how to set correct AllowedIPs for peers in different network environments
  • Collecting configuration fragments from existing peers to set up a peer

Usage

  1. Download the latest release of wg-make from here then install with install wg-make /usr/bin

  2. Create a working directory for wg-make(e.g. mkdir ~/wg-make), all configurations will be in here

  3. Generate an example network by running wg-make -example in the directory created

  4. Modify the example network description file (~/wg-make/networks/example.conf) to your needs, there are rich comments for every field in it

  5. Run wg-make -clean to generate WireGuard configuration files reflecting your changes

  6. Copy the generated configurations from peers to peers' /etc/wireguard/ then (re)start WireGuard (e.g. systemctl restart wg-quick@wg-YOU_NETWORK_NAME)

Network Desctiption File

Here is the example network description file.

The following may look like a lot, but most of the fields have the same meaning as the WireGuard's configuration, in other words, you already know them.

Feel free to submit an issue if you are not sure about the definition of some fields.

# This is an example of the Network Description File, it defines a network you are going to create with WireGuard.
# With this single description file, wg-make generates configurations for all peers
