This is a library containing useful tools to parse and inspect Solana transactions at the most primitive level.

Usage

The Solana transaction parser accepts hex string inputs of two types:

• Messages: the "message" portion of the Solana transaction, which is the payload that gets signed by signers, NOT including the compact array of Signatures that comes at the beginning of a full Solana transaction
• Full transactions: this includes both the message, as well as the compact array of signatures (or a placeholder array with zero-signatures) at the beginning

To use the parser include the hex string of EITHER a Solana transaction message or a full Solana transaction. You MUST also include the corresponding flag: --message or --transaction. You must include exactly one of these flags.

This area provides context on some areas of the parser output that are opinionated, custom abstractions.

Top Level Transfers Array

There is a top level array called "Transfers". This does not map 1 to 1 to an abstraction that exists in a Solana transaction, but is more of a custom abstraction for user-friendliness. Specifically it is an array representing all instructions within the instruction list that are simple SOL transfers (expressed in lamports) including the amount, the sender and the recipient of the transfer.

Address table lookups

• Context: Versioned transactions in Solana (V0 transactions) include Address Table lookups which are basically references to a location on chain where address strings are stored to be included in the transaction. It is used to fit more addresses into a transaction.
• Currently we do not resolve address table lookups in our versioned transaction parser output but instead have different abstractions to show where the lookup table addresses have been referenced. Specifically:
  • Top level Array – each top level address table lookup object here includes the key of the account where the addresses are stored and then arrays of all writable and read only indexes (two arrays total) used in the transaction
  • Within-instruction array – each instruction contains an array of all addresses that are only lookups and not explicitly included (each object here is a table key + index)

Future considerations

• Resolve Address Table Look Ups: Currently address table lookups are only included as references. In the future we could resolve these to the actual addresses that they represent
