This would allow a user to save a non-valid value in meta fields (e.g. if you add restrictions: { requiredMetaFields: ['caption'] } to Uppy options, you end up saving an invalid state. Can we do something about that? On the other hand, if we were to forbid the user to open the image editor until all the meta fields are valid, that wouldn't be great either...

I think you're right that blocking the image editor until the fields are valid is not what we want. Bypassing validation when clicking edit image is acceptable UX in my opinion. Once you click save, you will immediately see the missing meta field error in the file card overview (you don't have to press upload first). But for all other cases without required meta fields this is unconditionally an improvement. |

Maybe it's worth adding a comment saying that we are bypassing the validation on purpose, so it's not reverted by mistake in the future. |

If you edit a file, change a meta field such as caption, then click edit file and click save or cancel — your meta field change is discarded. This saves your changes when opening the image editor.
