This can probably be solved by the test runner, for example in @playwright/test there is

  forbidOnly: !!process.env.CI,

}

That seems more robust to me than static analysis. And also more developer friendly because locally there's acceptable use cases for .only and .skip imho, but your editor will be screaming murder then with linting disallowing this. It's just by the time CI vets code, we want these two gone, which will be apparent by the framework rejecting them when the CI env var is set.

@kvz Cypress is not interested because it "is possible today using outside packages" (cypress-io/cypress#239 (comment)). I agree this is not perfect, but having an imperfect check is better than no check at all.

If the framework cannot handle this then i agree something is better than nothing 👌
