About
This program was developed out of a need from the Hargrett and Russell Libraries at the University of Georgia to streamline and simplify the batch exporting, cleaning, and uploading EAD records. Our initial system was on Archivists' Toolkit (AT). What AT did well was batch exporting EAD records, but they did not come out perfect. We had a perl and XML script that would clean up these records to match what our finding aid website needed for display. That finding aid site is based on XTF and is particular about its needs.
In 2019, the ArchivesSpace Project Manager was hired to migrate the Hargrett and Russell libraries from AT to ArchivesSpace. Since ArchivesSpace does not batch export records easily, this program was designed to match that need. Additionally, the program incorporated cleanup processes to make the EAD records ready for display on our XTF finding aid website.
There are a few things to note:
- This program exports, cleans, and uploads files on-demand. It does not automatically export, cleanup, and upload files on your behalf. You have to run the program to do these operations and see the results in almost real time.
- The cleanup process had a limited data set. If you want the program to clean your EAD records in a way not specified in the program, then open an issue or feel free to fork the repository and submit a pull request. We do encourage anyone who wants more from the program to reach out.
