This adds:

an additional argument to Text which expects a sequence of horizontal alignment, vertical alignment pairs
associated API changes to surface to make it easy to use
adapt the examples for better appearance (particularly axis labels)
adjust the expected outputs for in tests appropriately

Also some drive-by removal of un-needed Repeat calls.
