Providing this file for pattern deployments using OpenShift on IBM Cloud VPC that may need specific storage requirements.

Who actually uses cloudprovider.storageClass ? (vault uses another key, hence me asking)

Ok, but like this it is even more confusing for a first time user, because you have a values file in a pattern that does absolutely nothing, setting values that do not exist. We need to come up with a more general solution here. First of all in the charts that use this, we need to document and expose this in their values.yaml file (which is not happening today). Then, I think probably piggybacking on validatedpatterns/common#374 we can start exposing this stuff when needed in a bit of a cleaner, more obvious way for a user.

Possibly related -- just today I filed validatedpatterns/docs#340 to start some dicussion about getting the *-values.yaml content documented.
