In a way I agree with @halpo and I also feel uncomfortable with foo_knit_.html as the source document in order to produce foo.html; it looks ugly. And foo.html-->foo-out.html is ugly too.

foo.Rnw does not have this problem because Sweave gods invented the extension Rnw from nw, and I can probably do the same to the input filenames -- foo.Rhtml, foo.Rmd, ... the disadvantage is these are not conventional extensions, so text editors may not know them by default and we need to configure our editors in the correct mode.
