What does it do?

What important points should reviewers know?

  • Always adjust all dependencies to use the same Substrate dependencies to avoid duplicate dependencies and resulting compilation errors
  • For other dependencies, ensure that as many crates as possible use the same version to avoid downloading and compiling multiple version of the same crate
  • pallet-asset should always be updated
  • Figure out if existing patches are still needed and if not, remove them

Is there something left for follow-up PRs?

What alternative implementations were considered?

I don't understand why you use dependencies outside of the zeitgeist fork repository when you just can use the local dependencies. What is the reason for that?

@Chralt98 If we use the local dependencies we'll have many (dozens of) duplicates in our dependency tree of the Zeitgeist project, for example frame-support from paritytech/polkadot-sdk and from zeitgeistpm/polkadot-sdk. Go ahead an try it out to see what happens, use a branch that contains pallet-assets with the default dependency setup in Cargo.toml and then cargo update in Zeitgeist and inspect the diff of Cargo.lock. In some cases duplicate dependencies will work, in some cases it will lead to uncompilable code, usually emitting an error similar to the one in this post: https://substrate.stackexchange.com/questions/4637/errore0152-found-duplicate-lang-item-when-building-sp-io/4639#4639
