FUS v5.0.0

Now live and available in the Wabbajack browswer!

It's hard to believe, but yes, we're finally done. We started this overhaul in March, with 24 beta versions so plenty of testing. We do not expect any issues, but of course, please let us know if there are some!

The list of changes from the previous live version 4.1.19 is far too great to be enumerated in one post. The journey has been recorded through the different beta versions, and since the latest public beta version, we added another tool - SkyPatcher, and many small compatibility patches. This also means that the live version is NOT compatible with any beta version of FUS!

So: New save required!

For those who have not been paying close attention, the main updates from v4.1.19 to v5.0.0 are:

  • ESL support
  • Playable full vanilla intro
  • Update and restructure of the green mod section and all of its mods
  • Community Shaders update
  • Landscape update (water, mountains, snow, and some textures)
  • Increased armor variety by Sentinel
  • Gameplay major overhaul to the complete vanilla-friendly SimonRim suite (including newly made mods specifically because of FUS, thanks Rafear!)
  • New dragon combat (only enabled in CANGAR profile, more difficult)
  • New voicelines
  • Updated the Wiki

Recommended to use Azurite Weather meditation: Worldview -> Natural.

Okay, here's a set of news that is really worth it and the reason we've been waiting to release FUS 5. VRIK had an update that allows to play the entire actual intro again! In adding this I also realized that our dragons were completely unchanged and I couldn't let that stand. So I added both visual and combat overhauls (breath is more dangerous and drops hazards, and melee is also more deadly, and dragons land more often). They are currently enabled in FUS RO DAH and CANGAR, because I definitely need feedback on those! Are they good? are they balanced? The first dragon fight is definitely much more dangerous now, but I hadn't had the time to test dragons on later levels. Is it more fun? If you think they are fun but a little difficult, I will only enable them in CANGAR for FUS 5. Other changes are that we added Pilgrim and Sorcerer, two last mods of Simonrim we didn't use. They are almost perfectly patched, but not fully. Still, they work already, just some visual glitches.

If you update from an existing save, first, take off the amulet you wear, and wait until any blessing from a shrine wears off. Then you should be good to go. You will need to redo VRIK settings, or save your current setting files elsewhere and manually change the new VRIK files to your current VRIK settings, but not just copy the files. VRIK has new entries so you need to copy one by one. It's probably easiest to just redo the VRIK setup. You will also have to run the MCM recordings again, as they only run on new characters. Specifically, adjusting dragon damage taken to 67% in the Simply Balanced MCM, and adjusting VRIK settings as per the default FUS MCM Recording.

FUS v5.0.0-beta20-rc2

I have personally playtested the previous version for about 10h game time with unarmed and melee combat. I have added a few minor changes, all are savefile compatible.

The biggest, and best change to melee is that I added speed and reach fixes back in, with extra shorter settings, which means that you will have a much easier time evading enemy attacks (especially those sweeping broadsword attacks that seemed to hit you even from 3m away!). I have had it to a lower setting before, but that led to NPCs suddenly fighting unarmed only, so the current setting is a bit of a tradeoff.

Please, please, I need your help in playtesting this. If you have time this week, please get this version, and play a bit, let me know if you see any NPCs fighting unarmed when they should not. Please make a screenshot of their inventory after you killed them. Also please playtest magic, as I am not playing a magic character at the moment.

This is already an extremely refined version. I really very much intend to have the FUS 5 final version be savefile compatible with this, because I play a character myself now. It is a good time to jump in and iron out the final kinks if there are any. If I don't get any feedback it will be released next weekend.

This is the release candidate of FUS 5. It is likely not savefile compatible with beta18. The difference is not huge, mostly tweaks that were needed and remained on my todo for a while. I went back to vanilla waterfalls because Natural Waterfalls were transparent and that looked off. Stamina drain for archery is reduced. Spell Wheel gesture update included.

Main things to test are the new blade and blunt and the new water. We also now finally committed to our non-parallax new landscape. We chose this because parallax landscape just costs too much perf for the small visual gain it brings, and some glitches with parallax terrain blending were jarring and we could not fix them, either, so we opted for consistency and lightness. As an addition, using non-parallax terrain allowed us more tweaking which was nice. Changelog from beta14:

!!! PUBLIC BETA TEST !!!

This is an attempt to rework FUS with the knowledge gained in the last years. We cleaned up a few things, and made others more clear. Many aspects are similar, but also many are changed. Absolutely NOT savefile friendly.

All mods are up to date. The most notable change is that we switched to a cohesive SimonRim suite for an all-around vanilla-friendly modern gameplay. Latest CS is of course also there. We also added ESL fix for your convenience, but it is NOT enabled by default. Water, mountains, snow, and some textures are changed. We changed some armor retexes and added Sentinel for enhanced variety. We also added dialogue options and additional voice lines.
