Modern IDEs support the following workflow:

  1. Creating a code bookmark (= a visual marker on a single line)
  2. Editing code
  3. Calling a bookmark overview overlay (modal window), which contains a single bookmark now
  4. Selecting this bookmark, brings me to the code line I've bookmarked in the 1. step
  5. Editing code
  6. Creating another bookmark
  7. Calling a bookmark overview overlay (modal window), which contains two bookmarks now with the content of the respective line or something else meaningful
  8. Selecting the bookmark I'd like, brings me to the code line I've selected

And everything is accessible via keyboard (shortcuts).

This simplifies the work in different files a lot. I don't know whether Eclipse supports it but modern IDEs do.
