Click the "Connect" icon in the bottom left, which looks like a plus sign.

Enter the following information:

For the Hostname field, enter irc.gitter.im

For the Port field, enter 6667 and Check Use Secure Connection (TLS) and Only allow trusted certificates

For the Nick field, enter your Gitter/Github username

Enter the Gitter token irc.gitter.im in the Password field

Voila!
