WordPad is currently simple RTF editor - included with Windows. However it has one important usage:

It can show/edit Unix text files (Notepad shows them as single long line)

Invoking WordPad

Under Windows 10 there are few surprises, so here are few ways how to run WordPad:

  • from CMD, issue:

    "%ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"

WARNING! Above Folder is NOT on Windows PATH, so just typing wordpad in CMD does not work!

  • Using Windows Search:

    • Press Win+S
    • type word
    • there should be highlighted Best Match -> WordPad
    • press ENTER to run WordPad
  • Using Open with....

    • right-click file you want to open with WordPad
    • choose Open with -> Choose another app
    • if there is no WordPad visible then click on More apps
    • select WordPad, if you want, you may also check on Always use this app to open .abc files

And - that's all.
