ℹ Computer information

  • PowerToys version: 0.31.2
  • PowerToy Utility: FancyZones
  • Running PowerToys as Admin: Yes
  • Windows build number: [run "winver"] 21H1 19043.844

📝 Provide detailed reproduction steps (if any)

I move the Powertoys Settings Window to a FancyZone and close it. When I open Powertoys Settings Window, it always lands outside of the FancyZone I placed it in.

Something internal to Powertoys or Win10 is causing Powertoys to startup outside the Zone I placed it in. I do not have Powertoys set as an exclusion in FancyZones

✔️ Expected result

When opening Powertoys Settings Window, I would expect it to land in the same location (or FancyZone) as when I closed it

❌ Actual result

The program lands on the default screen location every time. It never complies with FancyZones and rarely complies when I move it to another screen.

For example:
Start PT - lands at x100,y100 on Screen A
Move PT to FancyZones Zone on Screen B at 500,500. Close PT
Start PT - lands back at 100,100 on Screen A
Move PT to 300,300, and resize window. Close PT
Start PT - lands back at 100,100 (or some other random location in this instance) on Screen A and resizes back to original size

@JStockCo
the FZ code to move a newly created window to the last known zone hasn't changed in a very long time.
The PT Settings apps always open in the same location and FZ can move it to the last known zone.
This is working reliably o my machine, but I'm not surprised if it has glitches on other machines since PT Settings used XAML island with all the quicks that come with it.
We will eventually remove XAML Island but for now there is nothing we will try to workaround this behavior that only some users are experiencing.
Closing as duplicate since it will automatically be solved when moving to WinUI #6715
