Based on all the UX feedback from #2524, @bia is currently working on the major redesign of the Time Travel component - her mockups (in development) can be accessed here.

@bowenli had following feedback (from email):

My concern with putting the time control on top has a few different points:

  • The style shown makes it seem very connected to the top navigation bar. It is not unusual to have 2 layer navigation bars, but in our case, the second layer is not related to the top nav
  • For consistency, the other pages have controls further down in the page. Most of the pages have some form of left hand column for primary nav with controls appearing inside the right hand panel. Even if we decide to put more importance on the timeline controls, the styling should attempt to move in the direction of the rest of weave cloud
  • Right now the top row of Scope shows "Processes Containers Pods Hosts" which is easy to scan and easily introduces the main concepts that can be shown on Scope. In terms of user goals, I think having these concepts be the first thing a user sees is more important than showing the timeline. During the meeting you were saying that someone would want to select the time first, then choose the objects. I think that can be true in some cases, but I don't think that covers the entire range of uses for Scope, especially considering all the people that would never touch the time controls and leave it on "live". I don't see the time controls as having a progression relationship with the other filters. They are somewhat orthogonal.
