Use UTX compression for program executables
Use LZMA compression for ZIP's (installer and add-on pack)
Add award sounds to indicate progress made during gameplay. Particularly useful for PC and DOS as they don't have visual progress.
Reduce de-bounce time on input controls

Add-on stuff:
Add Pinball support (via Visual Pinball) with 2 DK tables.
Add delayed keypress configuration for PC. Used to skip intro screens.

Slight increase to DK coin release frequency
Change first 3 machine unlock targets set to 1000, 2000, 3000

Improvements suggested by Justin De Lucia:

  • When getting the first place prize from a game, Donkey Kong shows his teeth while hoisting the gold trophy.
  • A mini trophy (gold, silver or bronze) appears next to each machine after a trophy is awarded, indicating the players best achievement. This achievement is stored. Can the player achieve gold on all machines?
  • Fix bug with game description being active while jumpman is on a ladder
  • Add-on download/install screens now feature an animated DK and Pauline announces the download percentage progress.

Get "Spec Kong" working on Spectrum 48K
Add paragraph highlighting to game text and update some game descriptions. Also correctly align the right border.

Updates to console stuff.

Add support for CP/M via DOS emulator. The amazing ascii "Ladder" DK clone is now playable.

Add support for Amstrad PCW with Climb-It (brilliant!)
Add support for Sega SG-1000 with 3 DK variants (ported from Colecovision)
Add What's Up Donkey Kong to NES. It's a DK hack extracted from one of the Plug-n-Play devices
Add DK Supergame and DK JR. Supergame to Coleco Adam

Bug fixes for 0.65 release - as reported by Justin De Lucia

  1. Atari ST - TOS file error. Was due to the emulator save state storing physical TOS file path rather than taking relative install path from the command line arguments. As a consequence, the save states are removed and the load screens appear.
  2. Remove DK Junior 2 game from Atari ST. As this now shows a demo on start-up.
  3. ZX80 Kong - This was moved to DKWolf emulation under ZX81 and fully working.
  4. The double ladders on the Crazy Kong board were lowered in height to match the ones present on the other floors. A lives counter was also added to the Crazy Kong board.
  5. Add ? to "Can you reach the infamous killscreen at 22-1" attract mode text

Optimised stage transitions
Add Petscii Kong back into arcade floor. It's a great clone.

Add-on specific:
Cache the full game menu for add-on. Cache is done on first open of game menu and Pauline informs "Building the game menu...". The menu opens immediately thereafter.
Add DK and DK Jr. for NES with HD Packs (via Mesen)
Lowres NX (Fantasy Console) and Tandy MC10 support added via PC emulation.
Fix-It-Felix 3, DK Jr. Game & Watch Tribute added
Console add-on updated to V2
Bring "DK HD Pack" and "JR G&W Tribute" into the default arcade floor.
Improved progress bars for add-on download/install

b) Fix screen blit bug after install of add-on pack

c) Don't attempt to patch an unrecognised DKONG.ZIP file. Removed that last resort code as it will almost certainly fail.

d) Add "Apple 2: Budgie Kong" to arcade floor
Add "Intellivision: Beauty and the Beast" to game menu after fixing Intellivision memory maps issue
Skip automated game menu generation on launch when in unlock mode.

Build DKAFE without console for cleaner launch of external games and programs.

Add-on:

  • Add-on pack can now be downloaded and installed directly from the DKAFE settings menu.
  • Sharp MZ700 system added with a couple of unusual DK clones,
  • VTECH Creativision added with it's Police Jump clone
  • More Sinclair Spectrum/ZX81 clones added.
  • The add-on game menu is now ordered into sub-headings. Games are unlocked in groups e.g. All C64 games become available when you unlock the first one on the arcade floor.
  • Resolve bug with forced keyboard mapping for DOS and PC. Replace the multithreading procress approach with a simple background prograam - remap_pc.

Windows code signing implemented with Open Source Developer Certificate. Launch and DKWolf executables are now digitally signed so the application should be trusted and not present warnings at install time.

Simplify shell interface using a data table, allowing multiple inputs during boot.

a) Add-on Improvements.

  • Add-on support for LCD Games (such as Coleco Donkey Kong and Gakken Crazy Kong)
  • Support external PC games via shell and include "Fix It Felix Jr. Classic", "DK Redux" and "Amiga A500 DK PD" in add-on
  • Give focus to external called programs.
  • Added staging environment of dosbox-x for DOS game support.
  • Added support for Congo Bongo and Logger arcade games which appear as "Bonus" items in the add-on pack
  • PC games check x64 compatibility when installing add-on pack to x64 target
  • Temporary keyboard remappings for duration of game managed in config
  • Force quit for games that are hard to exit.
  • Add-on targets don't appear now until after quick start is done
  • Display P1 or JUMP button to start for add-on games. These buttons are used to select options etc instead of the game default (space, enter, s, etc)
  • Preparing message appears on launch when installing add-ons. It can take a few seconds to extract all the files.

b) Fix bug when checking for add-on installation

c) Remove rom validation warnings - which occur for some console add-on roms
Add-on specific config files are saved post launch - to allow for changes to be made in MAME
Resolve default config issues with C64 and ZXS
