Make travel story maps

goreaditya edited this page Sep 13, 2024 · 1 revision

These instructions show you how to make the Tableau maps that are located here: https://public.tableau.com/profile/psrc.data#!/vizhome/SoundCastmaps/TravelStory

  1. First, follow the instructions to create the file taz_avg.csv by using the grouped.py script, as described in : Produce Tableau Summaries. You will be using the file called taz_avg.csv that is located in the outputs/grouped directory.

  2. Next, download the workbook from https://public.tableau.com/profile/psrc.data#!/vizhome/SoundCastmaps/TravelStory by selecting Download and Tableau Workbook.

  3. Open the workbook in Tableau. These instructions have been tested to work with Tableau Public only.

  4. Click on the worksheet VMT. Under the data tab, select taz_avg.csv. Then point to the taz_avg file you have just created that is located in the outputs\grouped directory.

  5. Before saving, make sure you click on the travel story tab so that you are saving all the maps and not just an individual one. Then, you can then save the workbook to your account for your use. (If you are at PSRC, you can save it to the biud account).

The wiki describes the basic theory and process to use SeaCast for travel modeling applications.
