Configure SQL Instance Security Properties

FineBuild can Configure the Security Properties of the SQL Server Instance.
The only property that is normally set on this tab is Logon auditing.
If an "xp_cmdshell" proxy is required, please see xp_cmdshell Proxy Account.
SQL Instance Security Properties configuration helps to provide an audit of logon attempts to SQL Server. If you setup Security Compliance then SQL Instance Security Properties configuration will always be implemented, with the /AuditLevel: parameter set to 3 to audit all logins.
The SQL Instance Security Properties configuration relates to Process Id 5BD and is controlled by the parameters below:
SQL Version | Parameter | FULL Build | WORKSTATION Build | CLIENT Build |
---|---|---|---|---|
SQL2019 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
SQL2017 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
SQL2016 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
SQL2014 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
SQL2012 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
SQL2008R2 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
SQL2008 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
SQL2005 | /SetupSQLInst: | Yes | Yes | N/A |
In order to maintain compatibility with older versions of SQL FineBuild, the parameter /ConfigSQLInst: can also be used.
FineBuild also uses the following parameters to help configure SQL Instance Properties:
Parameter | Default | Description |
---|---|---|
/Auditlevel: | 2 | Defaults to Failed logins only |
/SecurityMode: | blank | A blank value results in Windows Authentication only. A value of sql will use both SQL Server and Windows Authentication |
Valid values for AuditLevel are: 0 = No login audit; 1 = Log successful logins only; 2 = Log failed logins only; 3= Log all logins
The following steps show what you would have to do for manual SQL Instance Security Properties configuration. FineBuild does all of this work for you automatically.
