Commercial Release

Around 2000, Andrew Rogers in conjunction with Christian Outreach College, Brisbane developed Sports Administrator as a commercial software package released through CottonSoft software. It was written for Microsoft Access 97 and received fairly regular updates.

It was later distributed through School Pro as part of their whole of school management package.

Andrew changed careers out of IT and the last update was Version 4.1 released in 2010.

Open Source Release

James Rudd had been running his school Athletics and Swimming carnivals using the Sports Administrator since 2001.

With Windows 10 rollouts occurring it was getting harder to run Access 97 Runtime environment on PCs. Graphs and other items has also been gradually breaking as OS changes and security updates stopped the Access 97 runtime from working correctly.

James contacted Andrew and suggested that if he could make the source code available then James would update and maintain it and release it as Open Source. Andrew was quite enthusiastic about the program continuing on and sent through the code.

After migration and code cleanup the first free release is available. It now runs on Access 2010+, although most of the testing has been on Access 2016.
