Danny leaving IF for BD. Less people work and more work-work. Is a happy move.
What is role of ICC in general and specifically in regards to this change?
- someone needs to do the people-work
- should be sharing & doing events planning
- in past, this meant calling caterers, etc.
- post pandemic, there's an open question
- improve feedback loops with users
- more feedback, review, info back to committers
- requirements-gathering
- discussion for future agenda?
- loss of tech lead is a concern
- keep cohesion between committers
- usually works itself out
- maybe it's time to engage in a new planning process
- how to get volunteers to do stuff as a "meritocracy of developers"
- would prefer more requirements coming from community
- some things not within committers discresion
- role of TAG, ICC, & Board
- ICC provides broad direction
- "What Islandora is"
- ICC allowed to make its own path
- don't wait for Board to define terms
- maybe review terms and put them into practice (instead of redefining)
- how to move code into core
- suggestion: suspend rule that PRs can't be merged by a member of the same org
- worth taking about. others have heard this concern
- lifting that safeguard means we need to put other safeguards in place
- don't want to railroad changes
- any rule will have somebody pushing limits
- tech lead role is to prevent problems
- there is history behind this rule
- balance is needed
- put on agenda? ask TAG to take it up as well?
- w/o tech lead, removing this rule may be problematic
- if it's everybody's job, it's no one's job
- this is critical time for a lot of folks (due to I8 migrations, etc)
- change is good, but also scary
- committers themselves control the process
- Danny "exit interview?"
- look at what other platforms like Samvera does well & try to pay attention to it
- maybe less technical focus while no tech lead in place
- how is Islandora similar & different from other similar platforms?
- (admin) theme change is easy. improving usability is harder, but important
- where to find stuff can be hard
- make more approachable
- user group research project?
- hardest group to wrangle
- what if we made process for contributing (non-code e.g. views, etc) easier?
- might increase involvement
- need better understanding of how to share. in I8, this is not entirely clear (module, theme, view, config, docs)
- documentation group talking about this as well
- all of the org structures happened organically
- maybe we can streamline
- this conversation beeds to go beyond just this group
- how do committers address issues in between tech leads?
- need to define role, process, or support structures for handling interperson issues while IF works to fill positions
- request that Danny stay on to facilitate the transition
- exit interview
- describe soft-skills, as well as logins, etc.
- help figure out interim support structures
- suggestion: suspend rule that PRs can't be merged by a member of the same org
