Floor Design

How the Floors Work

The floors should represent a theme of progression through the game. It should look more and more challenging as the game goes through design wise, and the environment and enemies should adapt along with the floor. For example, if the level has a large amount of lava, the enemies should be more rocky, or fire-y than usual to fit the environment they are in.

There can be one level per floor, or more than one, depending on what the level designer feels is appropriate. There should be multiple paths the player can follow on each level, but with an overall endpoint. This can either be tree based with different end points, or secret level based with alternate paths that may have hidden areas, enemies, etc. Thematically, there are multiple ways this could go. Venturing through the pyramid, the path to reach the throne, climbing up to reach the home of the gods, etc.

Editing Floors

Levels are saved in a binary format. Use the built-in level editor to easily design levels.

Probable Stage Progression

Once you beat a stage, you can go back to it and fight there?

  • Outside stage Egyptian town and monuments. Fight people, not supernatural stuff.
  • Valley of Kings Raid different tombs (some of which are hidden, to different degrees of secrecy) to acquire lots of items and vocabulary. There are two bosses in the Valley of Kings, one of which opens a portal to the Pyramid, the other of which goes to the Nile.
  • The Pyramids (Being designed by Marc Sarbu-Ferreira) Mummies and stuff. This floor is not randomly generated, so there are puzzles to do.

The other quest line branching from the Valley of Kings has floors which are largely randomly generated:

  • The Nile Go down the river (in a boat), avoiding crocodiles, pirates, and cataracts.
  • The Underworld Fight lots of slimy shit. Ultimate boss is the evil serpent Apophis.
